Tips For Moving Quickly

Posted on: 12 July 2019

A local move may be a lot less effort than relocating across the country, but it can still be stressful. This is especially true if you are unable to take time off from work or school to handle the move. In this case, you have to find a way to complete the move in your spare time. Chances are, you won't be able to spend more than a single day or perhaps a weekend on the actual move, so you will need the following tips to make sure your move goes smoothly.

Tip #1: Plan ahead

First and foremost, begin the process well in advance. If you don't have a lot of time to dedicate all at once to the move, then be proactive with your spare time on the weekends. Create a plan for packing. First on the list should be anything you will not need over the next month or more. Last should be the items you will need up until the day of the move. For example, on the first weekend, you can pack off season clothing and decor items, and then your kitchen and bathroom items can be packed on the weekend of your move. This way, you can be sure the packing is done without a need to pull an all-nighter to do it the day before the move.

Tip #2: Get a truck

Save time by renting a moving truck. This way, you can spend half the day at your old home loading up all your items, and the second half unloading at your new home. That will give you the second day of your weekend to clean the old place and begin unpacking at the new one. If you use smaller cars, you will waste half the day driving back and forth between the two places. This cost in time will ensure you don't get as much done, which can lead to the risk of not finishing in the short window of time you have.

Tip #3: Hire movers

Finally, hire movers. Friends can be helpful, but movers work much more quickly and efficiently. They can break down furniture and reassemble it in less time than it may take you to do it alone. Further, they have the tools as well as tricks of the trade to help them load the truck in record time. Due to their experience, the movers will also be able to load the truck better than you may be able to, which allows them to move everything in fewer trips.
